Guide for UK sellers
How to sell clothes for cash, fast
The quickest ways to turn clothes into cash pay the least, and the best-paid take a few days. Here’s every option, from money today to the most money, and how to get both.
Your options, fastest first
| Where | When you’re paid | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Cash for clothes shop or collection | On the spot | Typically 40p to 60p a kilo, about £5 for a 10kg bag |
| Second-hand or vintage shop that buys | On the spot, if they want it | A share of what they’ll sell it for |
| Facebook Marketplace | Cash when the buyer collects | Your price, no fees |
| Vinted | Two days after delivery, or sooner if the buyer confirms | Your price, no seller fees |
| eBay | Paid out to your bank once the sale completes | Your price; no fee for private sellers on clothes |
| Thrift+ bag | As each item sells | A small share of each price |
Cash today: by the kilo
Cash for clothes shops, and services that collect from your door, weigh your bags and pay on the spot. Rates are typically 40p to 60p a kilo for clean, wearable clothes, sometimes more for new items with tags. It’s fast and takes everything, but a 10kg bag brings in about £5, whatever’s in it.
Cash in a day or two: sell locally
Facebook Marketplace is the fastest way to get a fair price. Buyers nearby collect and pay cash, so there’s no fee and nothing to post. It works best for coats, bundles of kids’ clothes and anything bulky. Some second-hand and vintage shops also buy outright, but they’re choosy and pay less than they’ll sell for.
The most money: sell online
Listing each piece on Vinted or eBay takes longer but gets the full price, and neither charges private sellers a fee on clothes. On Vinted, the money lands in your balance once the buyer confirms the order, or two days after delivery, and you can then move it to your bank. Our guide to where to sell clothes online compares the sites.
Get both: sort the pile first
- Pull out anything branded or barely worn. One good jacket listed on its own can be worth more than a whole bag by weight.
- List those on Vinted or eBay, priced from what the same items have sold for.
- Weigh in the rest at a cash for clothes shop, or donate it.

Rates and payment times vary between shops and change over time, so check before you go. Selling your own clothes usually isn’t taxed; buying clothes to resell can be. See tax on reselling.
